Male apron

Masculine apron… or maybe not?

This apron was originally meant as a handmade gift for a friend, so while choosing the fabric I kept thinking in terms of darker colors and a more “masculine” style.

But honestly, once it was finished, I realized I would happily keep it for myself as well.

Sometimes the simplest sewing projects become unexpectedly versatile.

For this apron, I used an IKEA fabric that had been sitting untouched in my fabric stash for ages.

It turned out to be absolutely perfect for this type of project, and I love finally finding a good use for fabrics that have been patiently waiting on the shelf for years.

The pattern comes from the beautiful book Linen, Wool, Cotton by Akiko Mano.

The instructions were incredibly easy to understand and the apron itself came together surprisingly quickly.

The original pattern suggests using linen fabric, and I completely understand why—it would probably give the apron an even softer and more natural look.

Still, I really like the slightly sturdier feel that this IKEA cotton fabric gives to the finished piece.

Simple sewing projects like this are always refreshing between larger quilting projects, and they make wonderful handmade gifts.
