“Wake up” Wall Quilt - My first handquilted quilt
Finally, after many hours of piecing, quilting, and hand stitching, I was able to bind it—and it’s finally finished!
This little wall quilt turned out exactly as I imagined it, and I think it would be absolutely perfect for a child’s bedroom or nursery.
I wanted it to feel cheerful, warm, playful, and slightly vintage at the same time.
For the fabrics, I used several prints from the beautiful Cosmo Cricket “Early Bird” collection, which remains one of my all-time favorite fabric lines.
I combined them with a red retro-inspired print that tied all the colors together beautifully.
The inspiration for the main quilt blocks came from the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book, while the rest of the design evolved naturally during the process.
Sometimes quilts seem to guide their own construction once the first blocks are finished.
One of my favorite parts of making this quilt was deciding to hand quilt it.
Even though hand quilting takes much longer, I truly enjoyed the entire process. The slower rhythm of stitching made the project feel even more personal and handmade.
You can read more about the quilting process and work-in-progress details here.
To make the quilt easier to hang on the wall, I also added small fabric triangles on the back corners.
They help the quilt hang more securely and neatly without needing a full hanging sleeve.
I’m so happy to finally see this project completed.
