The one that got away
Especially anything involving hand piecing, applique, or even simply sitting under layers of fabric for too long.
Quilting during hot summer days can sometimes feel more exhausting than relaxing.
Still, even though the sewing machine has stayed relatively quiet lately, I spent the entire weekend happily cutting fabric—and honestly, I enjoyed every minute of it.
There is something incredibly calming about preparing fabrics for future quilts.
Choosing combinations, stacking fabrics, trimming perfect pieces… sometimes the preparation stage is just as enjoyable as the actual sewing process.
Of course, while cutting fabric for hours, the usual troubling thoughts appeared once again:
When will I finally have enough free time to quilt as much as I truly want?
Maybe after retirement… assuming retirement still exists by then.
The Pinwheel Quilt
This quilt is slowly coming together, piece by piece.
I love how dynamic pinwheel blocks always look, even when using simple fabric combinations.
The movement they create across the quilt top makes them one of my favorite traditional quilt blocks.
The more blocks I complete, the more excited I become to see the final quilt layout.
The Peek Quilt
The Peek Quilt is also progressing slowly but steadily.
This project feels much lighter and more playful compared to some of my more complicated quilts, and honestly that is exactly what I need during these hot summer days.
Hopefully temperatures will drop a little soon so I can finally return to sewing and quilting more seriously again.
Until then, fabric cutting and quilt planning will have to keep me creatively satisfied.
Have a beautiful and creative week!
