Peek quilt: a finish
Apparently I am currently living in my pink period. As a child I absolutely hated pink, but somehow it has returned to haunt me in the best possible way.
This is the Peek Quilt, a gift for my newly born niece Anna. While making it, I truly poured all my love into every stitch. It was the first time I felt so emotionally connected to a quilt project, and surprisingly, I finished it much faster than my usual creative pace.
I cannot wait to give it to her next weekend during our trip to Thessaloniki. I really hope her mother loves it as much as I do.
For the fabrics, I used the magical and all-time favorite prints from Sarah Jane’s “Children at Play” collection, combined with beautiful solid fabrics from the Pure Elements collection by Art Gallery Fabrics. The pattern comes from the wonderful book Fresh from the Clothesline by Darlene Zimmerman.
Of course, my husband and our golden retriever Robbie insisted on helping during the photo shoot. Things quickly turned into chaos, laughter, dog hair and a lot of fun.
The backing took me a long time to decide on. Eventually I gathered enough courage to try machine appliqué lettering for the very first time. I honestly loved the process and the result turned out even better than I expected. The back of the quilt almost feels like a second quilt entirely.
One of my favorite parts was definitely the binding. Since learning how to hand-bind quilts, machine binding never feels quite right anymore. While binge-watching far too many TV episodes, I slowly hand-finished the entire quilt using leftover scraps from the front. It was completely worth it.

I was also incredibly excited to participate for the first time in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. Since attending an actual quilt festival is not easy for me, this online event felt really special.
Have a beautiful weekend and keep on quilting!
