WIP: The last minute finished quilt

I finally finished this small quilt — or maybe I should call it a stroller quilt or stroller blanket. The funny part is that most of the hand binding was done on our way to Thessaloniki while my husband was driving.

I have discovered that hand binding a small quilt is actually the perfect “on the road” sewing project. Quiet, relaxing, portable, and strangely addictive.

First of all, I absolutely have to credit my inspiration. The beautiful work of NanaCompany has inspired me for years, and the wonderful book Warman’s Vintage Quilts includes a very similar doll quilt that instantly captured my attention.

For the quilt top I used fabrics from the adorable 30’s Playtime collection by Chloe’s Closet for Moda Fabrics, combined with a dark brown solid cotton. The backing fabric is the beautiful Red Flower Floursack by Windham Fabrics.

The finished quilt measures approximately 25” × 33” (63.5 cm × 83.8 cm). It was machine quilted with a few hand quilted details and completely hand bound.

Lately I have also decided to keep this particular corner of our living room for photographing smaller quilts. The natural light there makes everything feel warm and cozy, and honestly I think it suits these projects perfectly.

Now for this week’s quilting statistics. There is always so much to do and somehow never enough time.

Now my stats:

Finished:
Little brown quilt
Currently in progress:
Checkers quilt
Dresden quilt
No progress:
Butterfly quilt
Pinwheel quilt

Small quilts may finish quickly, but they somehow leave behind the warmest memories.

Have a beautiful and creative week!
