Practical Orchard quilt block
The Practical Orchard quilt block is a simple beginner block, perfect for learning the Quarter Square Triangles and the making of an hourglass unit. It is also featured as a block on the Farmer’s Wife Quilt, and it is really beautiful.
A little bit of history
A version of the Practical Orchard quilt block was published by Nancy Cabot in the Chicago Daily Tribune in June 1934, describing it as an ideal beginner block.
Practical orchard refers to an old orchard that is grafted over so that it can bear fruit again.
