Farmer’s Wife QAL week 8: Attic Windows & Broken Dishes quilt blocks
This has been quite a productive weekend on my side — lots of sewing, planning, and a few exciting things coming soon that I can’t wait to share with you!
But for today, it’s all about the Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along, which has become a steady and grounding part of my weekly quilting routine.
For this week’s Farmer’s Wife QAL, I worked on two classic and very different blocks: no. 1 Attic Windows and no. 11 Broken Dishes. As always, I used foundation paper piecing combined with my favorite Lecien fabrics, which give such a soft and timeless feel to these traditional quilt designs.
Farmer’s Wife Quilt Blocks: Attic Windows & Broken Dishes
The Attic Windows quilt block is one of those designs that plays beautifully with depth and perspective. It creates the illusion of looking through a window, which makes fabric selection especially important. It’s a lovely block for highlighting feature prints.
The Broken Dishes quilt block, on the other hand, is all about movement and contrast. It is a dynamic, geometric design that comes together beautifully when the fabrics are carefully balanced. Foundation paper piecing really helps keep everything precise, especially with those sharp angles.
I’m always reminded how much I enjoy this process — the repetition, the precision, and seeing each block come together as part of a much bigger quilt story.
Here’s how the blocks turned out this week:
