Ship quilt block
A really easy and common four patch block, so that you will never forget your holidays! It goes by many names — sailboat, boat, and more — but the pattern is almost always the same.
Cutting Instructions for the Ship quilt block
This block is made with simple half square triangles — very beginner-friendly. I recommend making a test block before cutting for a full quilt, so you feel confident with your layout.
This is also a great scrap project, especially for the sails of the ship, but you can also go for a coordinated fabric look.
Always remember FINISHED SIZE means the size it will be in a completed quilt. The measurements already include the ¼ inch seam allowance.
*SQ = Square/Squares
| Finished Size | 2 SQ (Dark & White) | Strip (Light & White) | 2 Rectangles (White) | 2 SQ (White) |
| 4 inches | 1-7/8 inches | 1.5 x 4.5 inches | 1.5 x 2.5 inches | 1.5 inches |
| 8 inches | 2-7/8 inches | 2.5 x 8.5 inches | 2.5 x 4.5 inches | 2.5 inches |
| 12 inches | 3-7/8 inches | 3.5 x 12.5 inches | 3.5 x 6.5 inches | 3.5 inches |
| 16 inches | 4-7/8 inches | 4.5 x 16.5 inches | 4.5 x 8.5 inches | 4.5 inches |
