Farmer’s Wife Quilt week 14: Shooting Star & Periwinkle quilt blocks

A very productive weekend has just passed, and I’ll be sharing more about it in the next few blog posts. But first, it’s time for another round of Farmer’s Wife quilt blocks!

This week’s blocks were definitely a mix of frustration and fun. While working on no. 78 Shooting Star, I honestly struggled quite a bit, but thankfully no. 66 Periwinkle completely changed my mood afterward.

For this week’s Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along, I made these two blocks using foundation paper piecing and my favorite Lecien fabrics.

Farmer’s Wife Quilt Blocks: Shooting Star & Periwinkle

no. 78 Shooting Star

The Shooting Star quilt block turned out to be one of the most difficult blocks I’ve worked on so far. I initially tried using the paper piecing templates available in the old Farmer’s Wife Yahoo group , but the results were disastrous for me.

After some searching—and with helpful advice from the Farmer’s Wife Facebook community —I found alternative paper piecing templates that made the construction process much easier and far more accurate.

Sometimes the right template can completely change the quilting experience.

no. 66 Periwinkle

The Periwinkle quilt block, on the other hand, was a joy to make. Compared to Shooting Star, it felt much more straightforward, mainly because of the smaller number of pieces involved.

Even though it is simpler, I absolutely love how elegant and balanced the final design looks.

Moments like these are exactly why I enjoy quilt-alongs so much: every block teaches something different.

Here is how the blocks turned out:

Have a beautiful and creative week!
