Farmer’s Wife 1930's Quilt week 2: Daffodil & Betty quilt blocks (English Paper Piecing)
Not much quilting happened this week, unfortunately, and I didn’t have the chance to work on many creative projects. Still, I managed to finish two more blocks from the beautiful Farmer’s Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt, and that already feels like progress.
This week’s blocks are no. 26 Daffodil and no. 14 Betty, both pieced using English Paper Piecing (EPP) and a combination of reproduction fabrics that I absolutely love working with.
Farmer’s Wife 1930s Quilt Blocks: Daffodil & Betty
no. 26 Daffodil
The Daffodil quilt block was actually quite easy to assemble with EPP, but—as usual—I somehow managed to make a mistake and sew the block reversed!
Thankfully, quilting teaches patience and flexibility, and sometimes these little imperfections become part of the handmade charm.
Technique: English Paper Piecing
Fabrics: Red fabric from the collection 30’s Playtime by Chloe’s Closet (Moda Fabrics) and green fabric from Adventures With Alice by Darlene Zimmerman (Robert Kaufman Fabrics).
no. 14 Betty
The Betty quilt block was much more straightforward and would make a wonderful beginner-friendly block for anyone starting with English Paper Piecing.
The design is simple, balanced, and very relaxing to sew by hand.

One thing I’m really enjoying with this quilt is seeing how beautifully the reproduction fabrics work together. The soft reds, greens, and florals give every block that classic 1930s feel that originally drew me to this quilt along.Even when life gets busy, a little bit of sewing time can make the entire week feel calmer.
Have a lovely and creative day!
