Lifesaver Quilt, the Pantone Challenge 2019
Sometimes instinct knows exactly where to lead us before logic catches up. Coral, terracotta and mustard immediately became my must-use colors, and luckily I already had them sitting on my shelves waiting for the right project.
Quilt Process
Piecing this quilt was an absolute breeze. By then I had already memorized the pattern by heart, so my only real concern was accurate seam nesting. Thankfully, the pressing instructions included in the pattern make the entire process very straightforward and practically mistake-proof.
Machine Quilting
I quilted this quilt using a 2-inch grid design, and the final texture feels almost ethereal. My preferred quilting method for large grid quilting on a domestic sewing machine is to first stabilize the quilt by quilting stitch-in-the-ditch along one direction, and then go back to fill the remaining lines. This makes the quilt far more stable and allows flexibility with the final grid size.
Quilt Dimensions
This is a throw-size quilt measuring 64'' x 64''.
