Sewing for friends

It has always felt more meaningful to sew something knowing that it will be loved and used by someone close to me. My dear friend Katerina asked me to make an organic cotton crib bumper for her little girl, and of course I couldn’t resist such a beautiful project.

She chose the gorgeous MARINE fabric collection by Birch Fabrics, and honestly, the prints are absolutely perfect for a newborn nursery. Soft colors, sweet illustrations, and organic cotton—it was impossible not to fall in love with them while sewing.

Beautiful organic cotton quilting fabrics can sometimes be difficult to find, especially collections that combine both quality and modern design, but Birch Fabrics always creates incredibly charming fabric lines for baby projects.

This was actually my very first time sewing a crib bumper, and I have to admit… while making it, I kept telling myself that I would never sew one again!

Managing such long pieces of fabric and batting was definitely more challenging than I expected.

Thankfully, I had excellent guidance from the book “Simple Sewing for Baby: 24 Easy Projects for Newborns to Toddlers”, which includes very detailed instructions for sewing a crib bumper. Without it, the project would have been much more difficult.

In the end, though, seeing the finished bumper in the nursery made all the effort worth it.

And most importantly, the little girl is now enjoying her beautiful handmade crib bumper.
