Sunday WIP
A few months ago I bought a quilting book that I completely fell in love with: Material Obsession.
Ever since it arrived, I’ve been slowly studying every page, admiring the fabric combinations, modern quilt layouts, and especially the beautiful use of traditional quilt blocks in fresh and creative ways.
Around the same time, I also discovered free quilting and patchwork classes in a nearby village, which felt like the perfect opportunity to finally improve my quilting skills properly.
Recently our teacher showed us how to make the classic Dresden Plate quilt block.
I have always loved Dresden Plate quilts, especially the ones featured in the Material Obsession book, but honestly I had convinced myself that they would be far too difficult for me to sew.
Still, after seeing the process step by step during class, I decided it was finally time to try making one myself.
I spent an entire day going through my fabric stash trying to decide on colors and fabric combinations, and eventually I chose to combine two fabric collections that I absolutely adore: Annie’s Farm Stand and Riley Blake’s Sew Cherry.
So far I am really happy with how cheerful and colorful the blocks are becoming.
My main problem now is that I definitely need to buy more fabric—especially for the backing and the center circles—because the fabrics I currently have are clearly not enough for the entire quilt.
But honestly… that is probably every quilter’s eternal problem.
To be continued…
