WIP: The Pinwheel and the Cold

“Baby it’s cold outside”… and not only because I have been listening to the Rufus Wainwright version on repeat lately. Winter has definitely arrived in the Peloponnese and, honestly, the cold has become part of everyday life.

Nobody seems to buy heating oil anymore — only wood for fireplaces. Our house is unbelievably windy, and even with the fireplace burning all day long, it still feels freezing. Naturally, this means I have completely abandoned my sewing room for the moment.

Every evening I carry the absolute sewing essentials to a little table next to the fireplace just so I can keep stitching something. Quilting while wrapped in blankets has become my winter routine.

Enough whining though… because I finally finished the top of my Pinwheel Crib Quilt!

For this quilt I used two charm packs:

  • Cape Ann by Oliver + S
  • Hoo’s in the Forest by Riley Blake

The background fabric is classic Kona Cotton, which really helped all those soft prints stand out beautifully.

I absolutely love how playful and cheerful the pinwheels look together. It feels like the perfect cozy winter quilt, even while it was being made beside the fireplace.

Apart from quilting, I have also been spending a lot of time sewing tobacco pouches and pencil cases lately. Small projects feel much easier to manage during winter evenings, and they are perfect quick finishes between larger quilts.

Currently in Progress

  • Butterfly Quilt — preparing the backing.
  • Checkers Quilt — piecing whenever there is time.
  • Dresden Quilt — still slowly hand quilting.

This Week’s Stats

  • Completed Projects: 0
  • New Projects: 0 (although I am already thinking about two more…)
  • Projects in Progress: 4

Winter may slow things down, but somehow it also makes quilting feel even cozier.

Have a warm and creative week!
