The Greek Quilt-A-Long

One of the greatest powers of social media is its ability to connect people with shared interests, even if they live in completely different parts of the world and would never otherwise meet.

Until recently, the Greek quilting community did not really have an online space where quilters from all over Greece could communicate and connect with one another.

That changed a few months ago, when Mania — a Greek quilter based in Athens — created a Facebook group for quilters living in Greece.

And that is how the very first Greek Quilt-A-Long was born.

Quilters from all over the country sent blocks to Mania, who assembled them into a collective quilt inspired mainly by the colors of the Greek flag.

My contribution was this block, which gave me the perfect excuse to try something completely new: raw-edge machine appliqué.

I used scrap fabrics together with adhesive spray to help stabilize the appliqué pieces, and later hand quilted around the letters.

I honestly loved the final result.

I still have so many projects waiting to be photographed and posted, and so little time to do it all… but hopefully by the end of next week I’ll manage to share a few more of them.

Now it is your turn! Hop over at Freshly Pieced and take a peek at what everyone else has been working on.
