Domino quilt block

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make the Domino quilt block step by step.

The Domino quilt block is a really interesting five patch block that can resemble a cross stitch effect on your quilt. A really fascinating block with an easy tutorial.

Cutting Instructions for the Domino quilt block

Always be careful of the colors you are choosing. They can easily mess up your block (or quilt) or on the contrary, make it shine! I prefer to make a test block before cutting pieces for the whole quilt. It makes me more confident to continue and make the whole thing.

And always remember FINISHED SIZE means the size it will be in a completed quilt. The measurements given already have the ¼ inch allowance included.

*SQ = Square/Squares

Finished Block Size Cut 1 square from Light fabric & 14 from Dark fabric Cut 4 rectangles from Light fabric & 2 from Dark fabric
5 inches 1.5 inches 3.5 x 1.5 inches
10 inches 2.5 inches 6.5 x 2.5 inches
15 inches 3.5 inches 9.5 x 3.5 inches

Block variations

There are a lot variations for the Domino quilt block but they are all easy to make and figure out. In some blocks you will need to use 2 or 3 color combinations, so you have to be very careful with color choices, placement of the HSTs, and cutting your fabrics. Some of these variations will be different tutorials as they have an extra interest.

The Butterfly at the Crossroads block and the Farmer's Daughter block can be found in the Farmer's Wife Quilt series, and I have already posted a post about it here and here.

You can find VIDEO tutorials for some of these block variations to the following links:
