Farmer's Wife QAL week 1: Big Dipper and Economy block
It’s never too late to join one of the most fascinating quilt-alongs! The Farmer's Wife QAL has been around since 2011 and has gathered thousands of fans.
I bought the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book back in 2012, but never dared to participate until now, after starting The Quilt Codex YouTube channel.
Starting this week, I will be posting two Farmer’s Wife quilt blocks per week, hoping to finish the sampler quilt in about a year. I’ll also share a monthly wrap-up of my progress.
Week 1 Blocks
For my first two blocks, I chose two easy ones that also appear under different names in quilting terminology.
- No. 6 Big Dipper
- No. 29 Economy
I used foundation paper piecing for both blocks. Even though it is time-consuming, I really love the accuracy this technique gives. Of course, I made a small mistake on the Big Dipper block, but I think it will be fixed once the whole quilt is pieced together.
