Farmer’s Wife Quilt week 17: Basket & Friendship Block quilt blocks

This week’s Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along blocks are two beautiful traditional designs: no. 3 Basket and no. 40 Friendship Block.

As always, both blocks were made using foundation paper piecing and my favorite soft Lecien fabrics, which continue to work beautifully together throughout this quilt project.

For this week’s Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along, these two blocks offered a lovely combination of classic quilting techniques and playful fabric choices.

Farmer’s Wife Quilt Blocks: Basket & Friendship Block

no. 3 Basket

The Basket quilt block is such a timeless and elegant design. I used two of my favorite fabrics from this collection, and I love how well they complement each other.

The small appliqué detail adds a lovely handmade touch and gives the block extra character without making it overly complicated.

no. 40 Friendship Block

The Friendship Block quilt block was much more straightforward to piece and very enjoyable to sew.

It’s one of those blocks where fabric value and color placement really make a difference. Playing with lighter and darker hues can completely change the final look of the design.

One of the things I appreciate most about the Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along is
exactly this balance between simple and more detailed blocks. Every week feels a little different, and every block teaches something new about fabric, color, and construction.

Here is how the blocks turned out:
