Four Patch quilt block
The Four Patch quilt block is the king block for every beginner quilter. It is often the very first block you learn when starting your quilting journey. I absolutely adore it — and its scrappy version is simply gorgeous!
Cutting Instructions for the Four Patch quilt block
Always remember FINISHED SIZE means the size it will be in a completed quilt. The measurements given already include the ¼ inch seam allowance.
| Finished Size | 2 SQ (Dark) | Strips (Dark & Light) |
| 4 inches | 2.5 inches | 1.5 x 6.5 inches |
| 8 inches | 4.5 inches | 2.5 x 10.5 inches |
| 12 inches | 6.5 inches | 3.5 x 14.5 inches |
Block Variations
By simply changing the placement of your fabric squares or introducing additional colors, you can create many variations of this block using the same basic method.
We have already created a tutorial for the Autumn Tints block, which is also part of the Farmer's Wife Quilt series.
