Friendship quilt block
The Friendship quilt block is relatively easy to make, but it can be a bit tricky—especially when it comes to seam matching. Once you get the hang of it and choose the right value contrasts, this block can really make your quilt stand out.
It’s also incredibly scrap-friendly, making it perfect for using up leftover fabrics with just a single block!
Cutting Instructions for the Friendship quilt block
Always remember: FINISHED SIZE refers to the size within the completed quilt. All measurements already include the ¼ inch seam allowance.
*SQ = Square/Squares
| Finished Size | Main Squares (4 fabrics + white) | Small Squares (4 fabrics) |
| 8 inches | 4-7/8" | 2.5" |
| 12 inches | 6-7/8" | 3.5" |
| 16 inches | 8-7/8" | 4.5" |
Block Variations
By simply changing the color placement or fabric choices, you can easily create many variations of this block using the same technique.
The block is also featured in the Farmer's Wife quilt series, although I haven’t made my own version yet!
